Potter Anderson Attorney, Joshua W. Martin III, Receives DuPont Diversity Award
Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP is pleased to announce that Joshua W. Martin III was recently awarded the J. Michael Brown Award during the annual DuPont Legal Department Minority Counsel Network (MCN) conference held in Atlanta at the end of June. Nominees for this award are members of DuPont’s MCN who have achieved significant success in efforts to increase and promote diversity in the profession both within and outside of their respective firm or department.
Judge Martin has enjoyed a distinguished career of public and private service. A physicist by training, he began his legal career as a patent attorney for Hercules, Inc. from 1974 to 1982 while also serving on the Delaware Public Service Commission from 1978 to 1982. Judge Martin then was appointed to the Delaware Superior Court where he served for eight years. He returned to the private sector in 1990 as General Counsel and then President and Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Delaware until 2005, when he joined Potter Anderson & Corroon. Judge Martin concentrates his law practice on alternative dispute resolution and business counseling, particularly in the areas of telecommunications, public utilities and governmental relations. He serves as chair of Potter Anderson's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, charged with enhancing the firm's ongoing diversity efforts.
The MCN’s award is named after J. Michael Brown, formerly in private practice in Kentucky and now the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary. While in private practice, Secretary Brown was instrumental in establishing the Minority Counsel Network as part of the DuPont Legal Model, along with DuPont’s then-Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, Thomas Sager. The MCN conference is designed to bring together all of the minority attorneys at DuPont and its network of primary law firms and service providers, with the goal of developing focused recommendations for recruiting, hiring, retaining and promoting minority attorneys.
