Potter Anderson Attorney, Joshua W. Martin III, Elected to the College of Commercial Arbitrators

Potter Anderson is pleased to announce that Joshua W. Martin III has been elected to the College of Commercial Arbitrators, an invitation only fellowship of elite and experienced commercial arbitrators. 

Established in 2001, the College of Commercial Arbitrators is a national organization of commercial arbitrators providing a meaningful contribution to the profession, the public and to the businesses and lawyers who depend on commercial arbitration as a primary means of dispute resolution.

The College of Commercial Arbitrators promotes the highest standards of conduct, professionalism and ethical practice, develops “best practices,” provides peer training and professional development and offers effective means to identify elite arbitrators with professional training and experience to handle complex arbitration matters. Membership criteria include substantial experience as a commercial arbitrator, high ethical standards, and high regard in the field among academics, other neutrals and counsel.

The College of Commercial Arbitrators provides interaction and communication in the profession, and offers an easy means to identify those individuals whose professional training and experience qualify them to undertake the most complex and difficult arbitration assignments.

Judge Martin concentrates his law practice on mediation and arbitration and on business counseling, particularly in the areas of telecommunications, public utilities and governmental relations.  Prior to joining the firm, Josh was President and Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Delaware from 1996 until early 2005, where he was responsible for all aspects of its telecommunications business within the state of Delaware, including regulatory, financial and operational matters.  He first joined Verizon's predecessor (Bell Atlantic) in Delaware in 1990 as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary.  Prior to that, Josh was a Delaware Superior Court Judge for eight years.  Earlier, he served on the Delaware Public Service Commission from 1978 to 1982, including three years as Chairman.  A physicist by training, Josh began his legal career as a patent attorney for Hercules, Inc. from 1974 to 1982.
